We are seeking dedicated individuals in Fort McMurray who have a passion for working with youth in our community in a compassionate, child-focused, and trauma-informed manner. The Fort McMurray Youth Justice Committee works with youth and the families of youth who have been charged with committing a crime. The restorative justice program means that we help the youth, families, victims, and community stakeholders participate in the process of restoring justice for the harm done by said crime.
The time commitment varies according to the number of youth participating in the program. We ask for a dedication to meetings that run monthly or bi-monthly depending on the needs of the program, and we ask for a commitment to ongoing creative thoughts and ideas to help expand the program. We also ask for a commitment to stay in contact via email regarding your availability and to report on cases you are working on.
In order to volunteer with us, we require that a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sectors check be completed, as well as a clear Child Welfare Check by the government of Alberta.
The position is professional but mostly requires empathy and open-mindedness. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please send us an email with your questions and interest.
